Update on the closure of Benin Airport by Edo State Board of Internal Revenue There was commotion at the Benin Airport in the early hours of today following the sealing off, of the Airport by authorities of the Edo state Board of Internal Revenue Services over tax issues. Best Orator reports that the chairman of the state Revenue Services, Chief Oseni Elamah and the Airport Manager, Mr Sunday Ayodele engaged in a war of words over the closure of the Airport. The passengers who were stranded outside the gate waited for hours hoping that respite will soon come their way. The travellers however ran out of patience when the aircraft conveying other passengers landed at the airport at about nine o’clock in the morning and the passengers stranded within the airport premises as the gates were under lock. The passengers however went out of patience and forced their way through the wire fence to their respective destinations. This development apparently prompted the irritation of security personnel as the atmosphere became charged. While the situation was still rowdy, the state commissioner of police, Foluosho Adebanjo led other police officers to the scene apparently to forestall any break down of law and other. Although the atmosphere became relatively peaceful with the arrival of the security operatives, the situation took a twist when the chairman of Edo State board of Internal Revenue Oseni Elema got to the airport and was pointing accusing fingers at the airport manager alleging that he masterminded the closure of the airport gate. This accusation did not however go down well with the airport manager Sunday Ayodele who fired back at the Board of Internal Revenue chairman. Angered by the abuse melted on him by the airport manager, Chief Oseni Elema ordered his men to break the keys of the airport to enable travellers gain access into the airport, not satisfied with the decision of the chairman over the re-opening of the airport gates, the airport manager vented his anger on the camera man attached to the board of internal revenue which led to a free for all. Speaking on his decision to force the gate, the chairman Edo State board of internal revenue Chief Oseni Elema said he was shocked when he got the News that the entrance and exit gets off the Benin airport were under lock with passengers stranded.
