Update on the post and petition that has been doing the rounds about demolition of a chunk of the cultural industries quarter. With no time to check it properly and the deadline for objections supposed the 21st it seemed best to just share the info, as lots of people have been doing. Having now checked it out (and thanks to the update on the petition by Cllr Jillian Creasy) it turns out that the application was actually approved in 2011, and the current one is a formality to keep it live. The buildings which matter most on these roads are actually being saved - e.g Albert Works, Speedwell works (have a look at the attached developer report screenshot). A lot of those buildings arent going to be missed by even the most sentimental types. There are two buildings here which I do like and which are going to be demolished (see photos) -so it still seems a shame. When Ive driven past Russell Bros Ive always been surprised it has survived - Ill miss it, those windows are great.
