(Update posted for Elizabeth by Lisa Bonnice) So yesterday four of us and the man from the village went again to the police station. Along the way we encountered the officer we needed to speak to. He was out in the field and said we would have to go to the station and wait for him. Everyone was excited because the Mayor of Beijing was coming to their small village to see the improvements that were made after a big flood last year. Finally he came and spoke to us. Another excitement for the officers--a foreigner! LOL. I was the first one they had ever had to register. They had no idea how to do it. They told us that they might have to have us come back later because they had to call Beijing and find out the procedure. But in the end they gave me a temporary resident certification. Everyone has been so amazing, they have been doing all the work and research for me and paying any fees that need to be paid. I am just along for the ride. I feel very supported and loved. And these people have the patience of Job! So many hoops to jump through and a lot of sitting around waiting. After the police station we made the harrowing journey to the immigration bureau. Beijing is HUGE so it took us a long time just to get there. We drove to the city limits and then took the subway from there. We rode the subway, changing trains about 6 times, for about an hour and a half. When we got there we took a number and had to wait for a few hours. When it was our turn we were told that I had to have a bank account showing that I had 20,000 yen ($3000) in order to be granted the visa. I plan to extend my visa at least six months. I had no idea how this hurdle would be overcome but I knew it would. The man who owns the company, Mr. Jang, had one of his employees take me to the bank today and open a bank account in my name and deposit the money for me. So now I have a bank statement that says I have 20,000 yen. We will go again on Monday to show the paperwork. Today after we went to the bank my friend and translator, Emily took me shopping and bought me many things I wanted and needed. I am beginning to question whether these people are actually human. Maybe they are angels in disguise. The company is setting up classes for me to teach. I told them I did not want people to pay to come to hear me speak but they said that many will donate to me, which is perfect and the way I prefer it. Anyway, the abundance just keeps on flowing.... :)
