Update to previous post: Max Scherzer has reportedly agreed to a 7-year deal with the Nationals, although financials are not available at this time The team needs to have moves in place for multiple players before they will be able to officially sign the free agent pitcher, and as of Saturday, nothing was known to be in the works. The talk is of moving Zimmerman and Ian Desmond, maybe someone else or another couple. It depends on the price they are willing to pay for the quality they are receiving. As the hot stove really gets hot, one of the final and certainly biggest names on the free agent market list is close to finally signing somewhere. I am of course talking about Max Scherzer. Upon last information update, Scherzer was interested in at least two clubs and one of them was the Washington Nationals. There is little word about who the other might be, and that spells a deal for me. Why hide the teams if they have real interest? Seems to me the Nats will have the most formidable starter on the market signed to deal in a day or two. If this happens, the team may need to move a starter and Jordan Zimmermann and Stephen Strasburg are candidates for a trade, Zim being the more likely of the two to be packing for a different climate. This one is another to watch closely because of the possible impact on the NL East and my beloved Atlanta Braves.
