Urg, Amy , There are so many that could be on this list. Ok my top ten influential books... Here goes: 1. Nancy Drew- all of them. She hooked me on reading, so no other book had a chance until I discovered Nancy. 2. Joy School by Elizabeth Berg. My therapist, Helen Duncan Gavin, gave me this book one day when I was a teen. She knew it would speak to me. Ive given this book to both of my daughters. 3. On The Beach by Nevil Shute. Want to know the fear of the Cold War? Read this. 4. Fountain Head & Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I lump them together because they really are the same book. One Bad-ass female lead in a time when there seemed to be no such thing. Though I do not share her opinion on humanitarians. But I love her sense of self responsibility. 5. Somebody Elses Kids by Torey L Hayden. Not her best writing but the story picks up her slack. 6. A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway. Must read the restored version and not the version his wife edited. His candor is fantastic. 7. Angelas Ashes by Frank McCort. From the title, I had no idea how much he would make me laugh. And to think that his first attempt to publish it resulted in him being told that the Irish famine thing had already been done 8. Code Talker by Chester Nez. Loved the story of his life and how he aided in the Second World War. If you liked UnBroken read this - or listen to the audiobook so you better get the Navajo language. 9. Mystery by Peter Straub. Tom Passmore was my first fictional crush and I love that Straub brings him back in other books. Love his work. 10. Bossypants by Tina Fey because funny smart women are the bomb. She inspires me. Ok, play if you like to. No tags here. Just play and tag me if you do. This is an open invite.
