Usually the NYT does a fair job of in depth reporting in their pieces but this is not good. Nowhere in the article does it address the 800 lb gorilla in the room which is we have a huge part of our KY population dependent on Medicaid instead of the private insurance exchange. We are terribly unwell, sick and unhealthy due mostly to poor lifestyle choices and there are zero incentives in the law to reward positive lifestyle changes. In fact with new pre ex coverage it does the opposite. It is sick care instead of well care. I am fully aware of the liberal bias of the paper but it appears the NYT believes somehow that more money instead of better outcome based solutions is the answer. I felt pretty confident that the Kynect system would blow up in the future due to adverse selection but I thought it might make it a few years at least.
