Utuk Xul - The Goat Of The Black Possession: 4/10 Black/Death Metal from Columbia comes from my stereo, when I put the CD into it and pressed play. And like most bands from South America, these four guys play fast, punching music mixed with a lot of screaming too - unfortunately they forgot to spread some variety in their songs. Because all of them are shredding at 200 mph and creating catchy tunes in such tempo spheres is a very hard road to ride on. Utuk Xul, of course, failed. Its always the same: Ideas run off too quickly for creating a real impression or just pricking my ears. The guitars and vocals are presented too uninspired. Although the singing is extremly squawked, it rapidly goes on my nerves because of its monotonous performance. The drums are bothering me even more, which totally overdrive and suspiciously sound like a drumcomputer. Fastly rumbling and above all airless ringing, the snare drubs along, and the HiHat-sound reminds me of a little box instead of a human being as well. Indeed there is a drummer stated in the booklet, but, well yes, everythings possible in a studio. Since the drums and singing stand in the foreground, the guitars have no chance to present themself worthy and are only represented through some weird buzzing. Admittedly it aint a great pity because the work isnt that spectacular. Im not able to tell you if the guys used a bass, because I do not know if the description Sounds Of Black Possession indicates a second guitar or bass. It does not make a big difference because you actually sound out nothing, that could be similar to a four-string. Before I forget, sometimes these musicians use a keyboard, but it cant make the music more interesting in any way. It stands for reason that I didnt like this record at all and I wont listen to it one more time - you shouldnt either.
