VFL Athlete Max Hayes (Williamstown FC) completing plyometrics - TopicsExpress

VFL Athlete Max Hayes (Williamstown FC) completing plyometrics (double leg bounding plus stick) for development of speed, acceleration and rate of force development (teaching the CNS to contract rapidly - specific velocity stimulus). Plyos develop the athletes SSC (stretch shorten cycle) and their ability to produce force rapidly (low load power). All athletes can benefit from training explosively and developing their high threshold fast twitch motor units, the motor units responsible for high force and power outputs! Coaches tip: At WSSC we place a big emphasise on being movement competent but also coaching landing mechanics (absorbing loads) but also deceleration. In the video with max we coach him to stick and control the landing ie activate the muscles that stabilize the joint eg hip, knee and ankle. Most injuries occur due to lack of postural body awareness and the CNS not being able to activate muscle that srablizes joints. Prevention is better than cute in our opinion. Athletes need to be coach on how to sprint, change direction and jump... These are basic motor skills which we all take for granted. If you are a VFL, TAC cup or amateur athlete contact WSSC now to learn the science behind athletic performance and take your game to the next level. WSSC athletes bigger, stronger and faster.
