VICIOUSLY ATTACKED, I WAS IN AGONISING PAIN BUT THERE WAS NOBODY TO HELP ME… I am a 6 year old boy called Carlos. Having grown up alone on the streets of Phuket, I thought I could look after myself. But that all changed the day I was attacked by another dog. I was left with a massive wound on my head and neck. With no owner to care for me or take me to a vet, the wound quickly became severely infected. It was filled with maggots and I was in terrible pain. I had all but given up when I was found by a man called Khun Thep. He is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog. When he saw how badly I was hurt, he raced me to the shelter and into the arms of the waiting vet. Since being here, I am improving slowly day by day. Dr. Jennifer cleans and treats my wound every day and I am on antibiotics and medication for the pain. It could all have ended so differently… Without treatment, this wound would have become so much worse. I would have got septicaemia and almost certainly, I would have died. I owe everything to a very special group of Soi Dog supporters, whose monthly donations are what got me the help I so urgently needed. This group is called the Emergency Response Team and they have saved my life. As you read this, there are other dogs and cats out there on the streets, desperately ill or in pain. They are sick or injured; they have been abused or abandoned. If they could talk to you, they would beg you to help them. Please don’t let them down.
