If a man or beast IMPRISONED MY DAD I SERIOUSLY WOULD NOT DATE OR FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM. Also, NO POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL MOMS IN DISNEY MOVIES. At least not that I can think of! Think about it, Jasmine, Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Beauty, wheres their moms? The only moms I can think of are when Cinderellas mom dies, Sleeping Beautys mom gets knocked out for years, Peter Pan - Wendy and the boys mom is the most positive mom I can think of in Disney tales. A different era maybe. Lion King, Serabi was good! Serabi, Wendys and Sleeping Beauty moms seem cool but sleeping beauty overshadowed by a psychotic woman who takes the main matriarchal role. Wendys mom is absent most of the film and the other main female is a jealous Tinkerbell who risks the death of Wendy out of insecurity and hatred. She eventually comes around out of loyalty to Pan but tries to kill Wendy out of obsession with Peter. 101 Dalmatians the wife is lovely but once again the theme surrounds a totally insane older female figure in Cruella. Where is the strong, healthy, good will maternal role models? The heroine but also, Sleeping Beauty is helpless and unconscious waiting for a man to save her (kind of romantic, not trying to twist it but also, no positive messaging on helping yourself or self love but only the saving grace of a mans loving kiss?) Snow White, Cinderella, 101, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, all based around psychotic, abusive, older female matriarchs. Beauty, Aladdin, Lion King all based around abusive male villains and only Lion King retains a somewhat strong mother figure who STILL mostly defers to the abuses of Scar after her husband is murdered. Or does everything just defer to the king? Nothing is black and white but I can tell you right now there are a few Disney princes I would never consider in real life!!! Fairy tale or scary tale? Just saying!! What are they teaching the kids with this? Moms either crazy or absent or non-heroine female lead is villainous, jealous and violent up to and including murder and animal cruelty, patriarchal submission, and reliant on male heroes.
