VISIONARY CONVERSATIONS Why I Chose to Speak Out Against Corrupt Politicians I have never said that a leader should not drive a car. No. A car is good for mobility. I drive a Range Rover and I bought it with my hard earned money. But I dont count a Range Rover as one of the things Ive achieved on earth. I believe my value in life should be measured against my impact on humanity rather than the accumulation of material wealth that will only last for a while. Very recently, I felt like selling my car and to invest the money on youth empowerment in our community. That shows I place humanity above the material comforts of life. It becomes a problem when our Honourable member at the national assembly uses our constituency allocation to buy an SUV worth over 30 million naira while he comes home to shake hands with poor and deprived youths, often mobilizing them to perpetrate violence and all acts of atrocious cruelty against his political opponents. Its sad when the achievement of a politician is measured against the number of cars he owns which only gives him an edge over pedestrians. And this this is the mentality of our people. We worship criminals who use our wealth to drive big cars while they deprive us of access to the commonwealth. I was shocked to the marrow when I saw our past Chairman Ubi Arikpo, driving a rickety car; that experience alone increased my respect for him. We might call him a poor man as it is in our character, but he has not strayed from his belief system. Hes a humanitarian. Only a stupid person will evaluate him by what he drives. An intelligent person will respect him for who he is. I was moved to communicate our YES message to him, in the midst of many people. But nobody understood why I chose him. Personally, I have empowered myself through education. And I will never be poor for the rest of my life. Education has not only given me choices, but also, it has given me the opportunity to contribute in making the world a better place for others. I can chose to remain silent in the midst of oppression. I feel sad in my spirit because each time I look behind me I see thousands of young men and women looking up to me. But theres a limit to what I can do as an individual. Thats why I partner with like minds to bring hope to a generation in need of purposeful leaders. So when in speak out against injustice, it is not because I hate any politician; its because I want them to wake up. Honourable Bassey Ewa is a senior friend. Bomboy is a senior friend. Honourable Jones Williams is a great friend, a man I love and embrace with the whole of my heart. In fact, Jones Williams supported our YES program with a very small amount given his status in society, yet his contribution was highly appreciated because he gave from his heart. I will always project him as a good man. Nevertheless, I will not fail to criticize him when he veers from the truth. It is disturbing however, that our Honourable member representing Yakurr 1 only comes on facebook to bombard us with photos about his expensive trips in America and Europe instead of showing us photos about projects he is executing with our constituency allocation. It seems were making noise because these men are a disappointment to our generation. And posterity will never forgive them. We will continue to make noise till we experience true change.
