VISIONARY PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE FIRST OSOSO POLITICAL SUMMIT BEING A TEST PRESENTED TO THE INAUGURAL MEOP EXTRA-ORDINARY MEETING HELD IN BENIN CITY ON THE 3RD OF AUGUST, 2013 PREAMBLE Pretending that Ososo is not making progress in any direction is a flawed argument. But the question is; Were we moving in the right direction? Are we, were we ought to be? In the over 100years of Akoko-Edo existence, various other components of the local government had witnessed visible developed as against our Ososo Nation.It became a seemly conventional wisdom to usually undermine Ward 10 (Ososo) in the scheme of Akoko-Edo politics. It is against this background that a fledging, Socio- Political group “Movement For The Emancipation of Ososo in Politics’ MEOP is now mobilizing to bring together, Ososo personalities to reach out to other groups towards the realization for the emancipation of Ososo in politics. A mission to prove to others that Ososo will no longer sing with discordant tunes when it comes to serious issues that affect us. And this is usually the reason why our “Hair” were usually shaved in our absence in the past. The Unity of Ososo is non-negotiable and we are indivisible. We must remain the forward looking people of a common ancestral that we are. We foresee a United, Powerful, and Prosperous nation called Ososo, that will make our generation yet unborn very proud. THE MOVEMENT We therefore resolved to form a movement committed to the principles of internal democracy and focused on serious issues of concern to our people, and determined to collectively aid in bringing what is entitled to Ososo and abate our seemingly marginalization. In MEOP, we have leant to come together and take our destiny in our hands. This is appreciated with the caliber of Ososo personalities congregating here in acknowledgement. And also, nobody will decide for Ososo nation anymore. So we realized that a broom stick can be broken but a bundle of broom is difficult to break. We want to be together, our difference had robbed us of our relevance in the past. As we become united now, we can easily win the hearts of the people from other regions. This cannot be achieved on a platter of Gold but a radical revolutionary approach. So we beckon on all Ososo stakeholders to conscientiously buy into this ideas to develop an “Ososo Political Agenda”. We do not have one, yet. But the irony is that, we are focusing more on Politics rather than Policies. How do we assist our representatives to deliver the things that would bring a better quality of life for our people. We at this movement should postulate and help make these policies and set checklist for performance evaluation of our political office holders. It is only now left for us to show discipline, vision, altruism, patriotism and an historic commitment to revolutionary change, in the way we play politics in Ososo. Lets establish an “Ososo Agenda” and let every Ososo man, woman, boy, or girl support this project and the emerging consensus-ship in Ososo land. KEY FACTORS FOR MEOP I must not fail to explain the secret behind the resilience and the successes recorded so far by the movement; and that is “that the political personalities in MEOP had decided to sacrifice their personal wish for the interest of the Ososo Nation . “MEOP ‘’is not about any individual and personality but about giving the Ososo people a platform . To the best of my knowledge and understanding, personalities in MOEP have all decided to sacrifice their individual ambition and all ready to play the game of ‘’give and take”. We are waiting for the unexpected and we are planning for it. We do hope that the MEOP web site , when launched, will afford all Ososo indigenes (at home and abroad) the opportunity to regularly and objectively comment and make contributions on issues of our common interest , so that we can collectively build our democracy in Ososo to its enviable height. Already, there exist a site on Face book at facebook/movementfortheemancipationofososoinpolitics Having said this ,it is important to inform of the need for a Quick win Planning of set targets and goals. In the Quick win, three major projects readily come to mind; • Voters Registration Exercise/Voting proper • Constituency Delineation • Establishment Of The Directorate On Governmental Relations Our technical committees are to immediately kick-start preparations towards these very important tasks. 1. Voters Registration Exercise Over Voters Registration must be beefed up. This cannot be over-emphasized because political destiny is usually tied to voters strength. With the figures in Akoko-Edo, what we have presently falls below and do not debit the population of Ososo Nationhood. Constituency Delineation With the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Akoko-Edo may be delineated into 3 or 4 state constituencies. We need to articulate our stand and protect our geo-political contiguity to achieve a homogenous entity, considering our ancestral relationship. In this new exercise, We should become pro-active and get prepared to defend our presentation. Based on the 2006 population figure, INEC submission for Edo North vied code: SD/035/ED, Akoko-Edo recorded FCx4 option of additional two (2) State Constituency seat. Presently, find below the proposed delineation of Akoko-Edo into three or four constituencies; THREE CONSTITUENCIES AKOKO-EDO NORTH Ibillo, Lampese, Imoga, Bekuma, Ekpedo, Ekpe, Akpama, Ekpesa, Onumu, Ekor, Ayaran, and Ikakumo AKOKO-EDO CENTRAL Igarra I & Igarra II, Enwan, and Akuku AKOKO-EDO NORTH Ibillo, Lampese, Imoga, Ikiran-ile, Ikiran-oke, Ikakumo, Ayaran, Ugboshi-ele, Ugboshi-Afe, Ekpesa, Ogugu, Somorika, Eshawa, Ogbe and Aiyegunle. AKOKO-EDO SOUTH Ososo-Egbetua, Okhe, Ikpena, Anni, Udurevbo, Ikpeshi, Atte, Ojirami Dam, Ojirami Peteshi, Ojirami Afekunu, Makeke, Ayanoza, Ekpe, Ekpedo, Uneme-Osu, Uneme-Erhurhu, Egbegere I & II, Ojah, Damgbala, Sasaro, Bekuma, and Onumu. FOUR CONSTITUENCIES AKOKO-EDO NORTH Ibillo, Lampese, Imoga, Bekuma, Ekpedo, Ekpe, Akpama, Ekpesa, Onumu, Ekor, Ayaran, and Ikakumo AKOKO-EDO CENTRAL Igarra I & II, Enwan, Okpe, Ijaja, Oloma, Akuku, Akpama, Uneme-Nekhua, and Aiyetoro. AKOKO-EDO WEST Okpe, Aiyegunle, Ugboshi-Afe, Ugboshi-ele, Ikiran-ile, Ikiran-oke, Uneme Nekhua, Aiyetoro, Ogbe, Ashawa, Somorika and Ogugu. AKOKO-EDO SOUTH Ososo, Makeke,Ojah, Uneme-Osu, Damgbala, Uneme-Erhurhu, Atte, Ikpeshi, Sasaro, Egbegere I & II, Ojirami Dam, Peteshi, and Afekunu. This recommendation is before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Assembly. 3. The Establishment Of The Directorate On Governmental Relations The MEOP Directorate on Governmental Relations is established to enhance information gathering on governmental programmes with a view to bringing them to our people for subsequent benefits. For instance, our people had not taking advantage of the introduction of Electronic Wallet for fertilizer distribution in the country. Many other programme like the SURE-P, Niger-Delta SMEs projects are aboard. We needed to articulate a schemes to harness all these fact for the benefit of our people. The Directorate would be expected to consider and find out current facts on the supposed award of contracts for two very important Ososo Roads with the Federal and State Government. The Federal government had advertised the contract bid for the Engineering Design for Okene-Ososo-Ojirami-Igarra-Okpe-Idogun road by the Ministry of Transportation. What is the State of the contract (a link between Route 50 & 549/F117 & A2 Route 50 & 549/ ) and why have there not been mobilization to site? The Edo state government had also proposed the construction of the Okpilla – Egbetua Road in view of the Prospect for Industrialization in these Areas. Is there still the political will to execute this Road project? These roads are strategic and very important for Ososo’s Socio-Political and Economic growth. CONCLUSION MEOP supports the beautiful idea of OSCARDEL on the Ososo Carnival; it has given impetus to our political aggrandizement. We also support the beautiful idea on the Glamour World Park. We give kudos to the initiators of these projects for Ososo development in diversity. These projects are viable, its is real. Lets support the movers to achieve successes. From the foregoing, it should be assumed that the ball had started and every stakeholder should be expected to rise to the occasion and lets play. May the almighty God, in his infinite wisdom guide and protect this dream and give us the fortitude to forge ahead (Amen).
