VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3351 (Wednesday, August 7, 2013) Law of Stagnation About two weeks ago, I found myself in a car with a Distributor couple who picked me up at the airport to take me to the site of the VisionQuest seminar I would be conducting that night. The driving trip would take us about one hour. During that hour, a number of subjects came up, one of which was the tendency some Distributors have of reaching a pin level and earning a significant override, leadership and wholesale commission check, and then ‘leveling off’ their activity that could lead them to a significantly higher level. “Why do people do that?” was the question. In my answer, I found myself creating yet another ‘Basic Law’ to go along with The Law of Diminishing Intent, The Law of Averages, The Law of Familiarity and a number of other ‘laws’ that help us predict and describe human behavior and to better understand why some people do things that are not in their own best interest. The new law is – “The Law of Stagnation.” The Law of Stagnation is based upon that fact that very often, people can have their great blessing become their great curse; it’s also partially based on the fact that because we have so much, we end up settling for a small piece of what we could have. John and Mary build a 6-Star Ruby team of people for themselves. Then, they go into a ‘preserve and protect’ mode, which means they become good friends with their six star legs and begin ‘baby-sitting’ – they hover over the six legs they have and stop the process of building six more – or even one more. Getting the first six wasn’t easy, and in building a position for themselves of ‘half-way to Diamond, (6-Star Ruby)’ they encountered what everyone does along the path toward progress – they experienced rejection, disappointment, lots of broken promises, and other little stumbling blocks that neutralized their original level of excitement. Now, the thought of adding more Star Legs to their team is not what they look forward to, because of the ‘mental scar tissue’ that came from building the first six Star legs. Does this mean that AdvoCare is ‘too tough’ for most people? Of course not! What it does mean is that some people aren’t tough enough to effectively deal with and grow from the little stumbling blocks that is a part of every business or relationship. Can’t you see how a person who has been struggling for years just to make ends meet can work for a short time and build a fairly significant Plan B income, and then because of the comforts made possible by that income, they crawl into a jar , reach out and screw the lid on the jar and then weld it shut so they can be safe and secure from the challenges of life? It’s an easy thing to allow comfort to steal away the fortune – or at least debt freedom and a degree of financial security – that could have been ours if only we had possessed the ‘stamina to continue.’ And worst of all, those who choose to ‘coast’ forget about an essential law of life – where much has been given, much more is expected and required.
