VIVA RAILA ODINGA FOR YOUR GREAT EFFORTS IN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CORD leader @RailaOdinga will be honoured today at 11:00 a.m by the Kenyan chapter of Greenhand for his outstanding contribution to environmental conservation. Other than Social and Political reforms , Raila Odinga is a passionate conservationist who played a lead role in Mau Forest and Nairobi River Rehabilitation.He has played a pivotal role in championing for environmental reforms in this country. Thanks to the effort of Raila who during his tenure as the Prime Minister initiated a Climate change dialogues in Kenya leading to the development of the first National Climate Change Strategy and finally development of National Climate Change Action plan 2013 - 2017 (NCCA). He also made sure that environmental rights were given priority in the Kenyan Constitution.For the first time in the history of Kenya, environmental rights were listed as fundamental human rights. Article 42 of the Constitution talks about the RIGHT to clean and healthy environment which includes to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generation through legislative and other measures contemplated in Chapter five from article 69. The Fourth Schedule Part II lists all functions of devolved governments.Environmental functions are also included in those functions not forgetting the aspect of Public Participation envisioned too. Finally, Railas effort was also exhibited in prioritization of environmental issues in The first Kenyan Medium Term Plan (2008 - 2012) , Second M.T.P (2013 -2017) and most importantly in Vision 2030.
