VODAFONE Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan is overwhelmed with the abundance - TopicsExpress

VODAFONE Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan is overwhelmed with the abundance of talented playmakers in the national training camp. And calls have been made to former reps Emosi Mulevoro and Waisea Nacuqu to lift their form and try to win back their spots in the side. With the increasing number of former 7s stars and upcoming talents vying for the playmakers position, Ryan is satisfied with the players he has in the training squad. The former England mentor said the availability of some of the top local playmakers in his training squad would give him a tough job in selecting the best for the upcoming HSBC World Sevens Series Wellington 7s tournament. Star playmakers being included for the Wellington 7s tournament training squad include Jerry Tuwai, Eminoni Nasilasila, Vatemo Ravouvou and Emosi Mulevoro. We got some great playmakers now, said Ryan. I am really happy with all of them and I still think Emosi (Mulevoro) needs pushing up. He is a fierce competitor, good team man, he works really hard and gets turnovers and is a slightly different halfback from some of the other boys. And again we got players like Waisea Nacuqu that hasnt made this squad because he didnt show up in the two training sessions last time around. I constantly forgive and forget and Nacuqu is now playing club rugby and well see if he can get back in. I really like him but we got standards here and we have to go with it. Ryan said he had witnessed improvements to other members of the squad that failed to make the Dubai and South Africa 7s last year. He said these players would be pushing hard for their spot for the Wellington tournament. No doubt some of these boys will be pushing up for selection and I have seen changes in some of the players like Manu Laqai, Sikeli Vuruna and Niko Verekauta. Manu Laqai has got himself fitter and he is a good footballer no doubt about that and he is going to push the other forwards in the starting line- up. Vuruna and Niko had been in the training camp and they are good ruby players with right attitude and we will see how they go in training Also I have to make a few phone calls and get some players in France and I have many options now. Ryan said Fiji needed to reach the final in Wellington to maintain their spot at the top end of the points table. He said the target was to be in the top four and to automatically qualify for the Rio Olympics next year. The Wellington 7s will be held next month.
