Variety is the spice of life. It is perceived that in the Free - TopicsExpress

Variety is the spice of life. It is perceived that in the Free World, popular trends dictates the manner of politics. Increasingly, music is governed behind the scenes, rather than directed from the purity of Art itself. What was always of some consolation is that the genres of Jazz, Classical and World Music, stayed in the mix, a sort of measure balance from going too far off the deep end of catering to the fickle demands of those looking for a tuneful fix to accompany them along their daily struggles. I was elated that Wayne Shorter WON the Grammy for Best Improvised Jazz Solo. For him to still be honoured at this stage of his career and life, as well as for the Grammys to even list a category for someone of his calibre, all very refreshing acknowledgments. Then I came across this worrying info in my newsfeed that the reviews for Jazz, Classical and World Music were to be dropped from the media publication, The Scotsman. Economics rules much, understandably. I just hope that this is only a one off and that globally, the importance of reviewing quality references of Jazz, Classical and World Music in the mainstream, is maintained as the important cultural necessity these genres bring to the medley of music as a whole. change.org/en-GB/petitions/the-scotsman-publications-limited-review-all-genres-of-music?utm_medium=email&utm_source=notification&utm_campaign=new_petition_recruit#share
