Veneer coated OSB, may be ideal for situations where, either aesthetics and/or weather durability are important. The facilities would need to be large enough, definitely; to house a quality control department. Small scale w/o quality control would not be suitable, from my perspective. However, small scale; is desirable, due to lack of employment in rural towns and due to; in many cases, existing or potential rail lines; which from my perspective are much more efficient than long haul trucking; in this situation. In addition, some of the facilities may be better suited to simply produce custom ordered dimension lumber. Thereby requiring adjustable, forms and most definitely a quality control department. However, initially, standard dimensions and lengths would most likely suffice. 2x6 exterior walls studs could be manufactured with controlled properties and used in buildings with the chip strands parallel to the exterior/interior wall coverings. In either case a quality control/testing department would be necessary. In addition to a quality control/testing department a research and development department would be necessary, in an effort to keep desired strengths correct for usage, based upon factors such as available timber, season, soil characteristics, moisture, sugar content, etc........ Prefab wall panels, comprised of OSB sheeting and studs; with sealed fiberglass insulation batts. Could the sealing material be derived from excess sugar/sap/pitch; from the compression process involved in making the OSB. Better yet, sealed wall panels; with robotically installed fiberglass insulation batts. ... ....
