Venus and Her Atmosphere In one of Jenna’s new comments she said: “Why is Venus so warm then right? Well, its not the runaway greenhouse effect thats for sure. Venus has a very high atmospheric pressure. I believe its over 90 times greater than Earth and its why you see temps up to 485C there. The system is not being overwhelmed by molecules radiating energy, rather the high temperatures are being set by atmospheric pressure.” Right. A high density atmosphere *will indeed* be hotter than a low density atmosphere at the same radiant input level but, that is insufficient to explain why Venus is hotter than Mercury. Carl Sagan theorized a Runaway Green House Effect in 1960 and every space probe and lander sent there ever since confirms it. So you’re telling us Carl Sagan got it wrong in 1960 and NASA in *collusion* with the Russians have been covering it up ever since!? I call bullshit. You have to show us where Carl got it wrong. This has been standard astronomy text book stuff for over 40 years Jenna! You *have* to show us where he got the math and science wrong or you’re just making shit up as wacko as any creationist. You, as an American Citizen have the perfect right to make shit up and believe in it whole heartedly if you want to but *I* certainly don’t have to bow to your faith in ideological pseudo-science!
