Verizon Rant- I really try not to take my complaints online but in this instance I just cant help myself. Let me start off by saying that if I ran my business the way that Verizon runs their business...well, I wouldnt have a business. In the past two days Ive had two interactions with them that are absolutely mind blowing. The first instance centers around data usage. I understand what theyre doing, its a money making venture. I have, over the last 5 months, gone over on my data usage 4 times. This has resulted in paying between $120-175 dollars for data. Although these prices infuriate me I totally understand that you have to pay for their service if you use it. My complaint is not in the fact that I spent the money (mind you thats only on data and does not include the price of my normal service, nor the price of my phones), my complain comes in the fact that when I told them I wanted them to turn off my data until the next billing cycle they told me they could not do it. Not only did they say they could not do it, they then tried to sell me an upgrade that costs $4.99/month to manually set limits on data. So let me get this straight. You cant turn off the data. You want to charge me for overage. I do not want overage but I cant stop using data as long as my phone is on. Basically I would have to turn off all 3 of my phones (that I use for my business). I went and talked to a representative at Verizon and I was told that they couldnt help me. Then I called a customer service rep and was basically told the same thing. I broke down and bought the upgrade at $4.99/month because evidently I need to spend money to save money. I went to sleep angry about it. I wake up today and realize that I had forgotten to buy a present for one of my friends and realized he had recently gotten a new phone but did not get a case for it. I thought I would dip into the store last minute to buy a case. Mind you, Im mindful of it being the holidays and all, I didnt expect it to go quickly. I walked into the store, walked straight to the case area, chose my case and walked up to one of the lines. I waited in line for close to 10 minutes and then tried to purchase the case. It was at this point that I was asked if I was in the system and I told him I was (considering that I have been with Verizon since 1998). He then asked me for my phone number and tried to open my account at which point he informed me that I was not in their system and asked for my licence so he could put me in. I informed him I just wanted to purchase the case and leave and he told me that he didnt think he could do that. The customer service rep then scanned the item, and sure enough, it would not let him sell it to me. I then spent 15 minutes while he tried to input my information. I say tried because after 15 minutes of standing directly in front of this rep, wasting both his time and mine, I took my money and walked out the door. How ludicrous is this that a paying customer, thats trying to buy an accessory, is told they cant. I literally had money in my hand and was refused service (nevermind Ive been with the company for 16 years). At this point I was more than irritated so I called the customer service line. The rep was very nice (he was a manager) but ultimately did not make me happy. His idea of making things right was to offer me a free gigabite of data (mind you, I already pay for 15gigs a month and go over almost every month) and then offer to sell me the case for 50% off. Not only did that not make the situation right, it was kind of insulting. He was offering me, for all intents and purposes, about $15. I do not fault this guy, because I honestly believe that it was the best he could offer in his position. I will however say that Verizon very clearly has Customer Im Sorry I Cant Help You department instead of a Customer Service department. Im very nearly fed up and Im trying to decide if I should leave Verizon all together. Im very close...very very close.
