Verse of the Day Ramadan 2013 - Verse Twenty Six "Allah was definitely pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so he sent down peace upon them and rewarded them with a near victory," (Surah Fath 48:18) When the prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions attempted to enter Makkah to perform Umrah, they camped at Hudaibiyah and sent Uthman Ibn Affan ahead to negotiate. Rumors soon spread that he was killed, and at this moment the Companions took a pledge of allegiance to the prophet (peace be upon him) to fight to the death. This never happened though as Uthman soon returned and the treaty was negotiated. Yet this pledge was so pleasing to Allah because it showed the sincerity and dedication of the Sahabah. Interestingly, many decades later rebels would attack Uthman Ibn Affan and one of their points of attack was that he did not take the pledge of allegiance. These people were ignorant of the fact that he was the reason for the pledge itself. We learn from here that evil people will find a way to twist great things to make them seem bad. May Allah protect us all. [ Abu Muawiyah Ismail Kamdar, Head Tutorial Assistant at Islamic Online University]
