Very Grateful to the Chicago Fire Department Pension Board for granting me disability on my back injury. I am not feeling quite as good as I thought I was going to. I feel like a bit of a loser, although I never was a coward. It is not part of the job of a Firefighter to walk away. I never backed away from a fire or smoke. I was scared for my life a few times. I wasnt the best firefighter, but I know I wasnt the worst simply because I never ran out always forward. I guess this mean early retirement unless by some miracle I make it back to 100% with rods in my back. It was a good run. I feel fine and have great upper body strength, and I can walk. Im grateful for that. Im not a faker and never been. Just an guy who got on a youngmans job and tried my best. I pray the city gets these young kids on the job who just took the test. God Bless The men of the C.F.D. It really does pass you by quick when your gone. Tomorrow Ill bring the guys of Engine 78 some steaks, and my good Lt. who starred in BAD BOYS and MONEY BALL as the second baseman Bob G.
