Very honored to be invited back to the Nanny Goat 24-Hour race for 2015. As the sole remaining legacy 100-miler at Nanny Goat, this is the one race that Ill attend for the rest of my life - or for as long as theyll keep letting this crazy jester on the course. As a rookie runner with just a few marathons under my belt back in the Spring of 2009, I attended the inaugural Nanny Goat 24 Hour race, as my very first ultra-marathon. With absolutely no clue what I was doing, beginners luck carried me through the whole 24-hours and allowed me to stay on my feet for 102 miles. It was a whole year later before I worked up the courage to attempt my second 100, back at Nanny Goat again. This time I was in a walking boot from a tibia stress fracture. The magic number was once again 102 miles. I met Brian Recore and John Wog there and two months later John and I were crewing for Brian at 2010 Badwater 135. (Last weekend Brian and I were the sole solo runners to complete the 135 Miles to the House race, a charity frund-raiser for the Ronald McDonald Houses. Brian beat the jester on this one.) Looking back over these last 5-1/2 years since that very first Nanny Goat, I can say without a doubt that its been a very rewarding run. In the six previous Nanny Goats, Ive traversed that one mile equestrian loop and passed through the famous Nanny Goat barn 654 times. Ive finished in 5th, 4th, and 3rd place - and three times Ive been 2nd. Maybe lucky number 7 will finally be the big one. By that time I should have over 100 hundos under by belt as well, and the new world record for most 100s in a year. Yep, its been a truly amazing journey. Cant wait to share the next Nanny Goat Ed-venture with my ultra family. Sign up and come join me for a few loops. Its gonna be a blast!
