Very proud of Bridgette! PRESS STATEMENT OCC Officer success October 15, 2013 - For immediate release: Bridgette Lazzari von Gerhardt of Cayman Brac, the OCC Administrative and Investigative Officer, and her daughter Anika, became the first Caymanian mother and daughter duo to share the CILEx (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) Level 2 Certificate in Legal Studies Course honour, each achieving two of the highest marks in this academic year. Their achievement was recognized at the UCCI Convocation ceremony on Saturday 12 October, and their certificates / awards were presented by Ms. Sherene Vargas, Talent Manager of Maples & Calder. The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) is the professional association and governing body for Chartered Legal Executive lawyers, other legal practitioners and paralegals. The Cayman Islands Branch of CILEx was launched in December 2012 and is only the second branch to be formed in the Caribbean; Bermuda, the first branch was instrumental in changing the legislation in Bermuda to include Chartered Legal Executives as a part of the legal profession there. Bridgette Lazzari von Gerhardt became Secretary of the Cayman Islands branch in August 2013 and is, along with the Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer, one of the 4 Office holders. Nicola Williams, Complaints Commissioner, said: “I am extremely proud of Bridgette’s achievement, particularly as she embarked on this course of study whilst maintaining a demanding full-time role at the OCC, and I was honoured, as her boss and her friend, to be in attendance at Saturday’s ceremony.” Bridgette and Anika now plan to undertake the CILEx Diploma in Vocational Paralegal Studies. Anika is presently employed at Charles Adams Ritchie & Duckworth, where she has just completed a year as a Trainee Legal Secretary.
