Veteran Liberal Democrat MP Sir Menzies Campbell has blamed the rise in support for ISIS on oppression of Palestinians by Israel. Perhaps Sir Menzies can explain how he reaches that conclusion, given ISIS mostly attacks other Muslims, including fellow Sunnis? Sir Menzies is gripped by the fallacy that the peace in the entire Middle East hinges on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. But even a cursory look at the ideology of ISIS shows that they intend to build a caliphate by force, even if it means oppressing millions of Muslims on the way. Lastly it is clear that Palestinians in Lebanon, Syria and even Jordan suffer far greater oppression, and have far fewer freedoms, than those in the West Bank and Gaza. It is hard to explain why the treatment of Palestinians by these Arab states receives no attention from concerned politicians like Sir Menzies.
