Via Jon Machota The Dallas Morning News - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spent about 20 minutes Thursday morning discussing the previous year and the direction of the team. In Jones’ opinion, the 12-4 season with a division championship and playoff victory was a success. “I’ll always remember this team,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “I’ll always remember where we were, and I’ll remember that game [in Green Bay] and the opportunity we had and missed. “I’m so proud of this bunch. I want to build on this. And we can.” Jones later said: “We know that we can play and, under the right circumstance, beat any team that’s going to be playing [in the conference championship games] this weekend.” – Jones maintains that Dez Bryant’s play late in the fourth quarter against the Packers should have been ruled a catch. But since it wasn’t, the last thing he wants to see is an apology from the NFL. “I don’t think they do a bit of good,” he said. “There’s no consolation. … That’s just a little bit like throwing dirt in your face, or salt on your wound is the better description.” – Being able to keep the majority of the coaching staff together was obviously very important to Jones. “Our guys did one of the best jobs coaching that I’m aware of, not only I’ve seen but that I’m aware of.” he said. “It was outstanding. They built something to build on as well as took players that played above their level, whether it’s their pay level or their actual talent level.” – Jones said the idea of Jason Garrett not being the Cowboys head coach has never crossed his mind. “When I look at Jason, I see a lot of things for a long time,” he said before adding that the most important thing he has seen is progress. – It sounds like Tony Romo will continue to keep his same weekly routine next season. “A little time of rest is probably the more likelihood,” Jones said. “You’ll probably see him follow a similar regime.” – Jones attempted to stay away from talking about DeMarco Murray entering free agency, but said there’s no question the Cowboys would be a better with him than without him. – In regards to the defensive line, Jones said “Tyrone Crawford was everything we hoped he’d be this year.” He also praised rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. But he said adding another pass rusher is among his top priorities. Do the Cowboys have the capability to be major players in free agency? “Yes,” he said. “Yes we are.” Does he want to be active in free agency? “That’s a very good question,” he said. “I’d love to have the opportunity to improve that pass rush in the range of something that we could afford and make sense logically.”
