Vice-captain Tiote was today quoted in an Ivorian magazine as saying he hopes to leave Tyneside in the transfer window. The 28-year-old, signed for £3.5m in 2010, has been an influential player in Newcastle’s midfield over the last few seasons, but was linked with moves to Arsenal and Russia in the summer. Manager Alan Pardew revealed he wanted to offer the player a new contract, but now it seems Tiote has made his mind up to leave. He is quoted as saying: “I want to leave. I’ve spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it’s maybe time for me to look elsewhere for a new challenge. “I will focus on upcoming games and let’s see what happens between now and December. “It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I’d prefer to stay in England.” The Ivory Coast international is under contract at Newcastle until 2017.
