Victim or Victor by Debbie Retek Romans 8:35-39 - What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Do you have a victim mentality? Our exploitation has the tendency to keep us as victims considering what has been done was inexcusable, out of our control, and left us flawed. We lie back hounding ourselves repeatedly thinking we aren’t worthy. We can go on grumbling and wallowing in our self pity all we want, but that accomplishes nothing. Steve Maraboli says it best,“Your complaints, your drama, your victim mentality, your whining, your blaming, and all of your excuses have NEVER gotten you even a single step closer to your goals or dreams. Let go of your nonsense. Let go of the delusion that you DESERVE better and go EARN it! Today is a new day!” These words may look discordant, but they’re accurate. If we know we deserve better, then why are we enabling Satan to torment us? Why are we tolerating this deception to impede with God’s plans? The word evidently states, “if God is for us, who can be against us”? Let’s speak to satan audaciously and declare that we have the victory! God says we are more than conquerors, not a little, not some, we are MORE than.. (Romans 8:37) As a teenager I tolerated detrimental thoughts to victimize my life. I laid in my bed staring at the ceiling only to engross my mind with the victim mentality. Letting the past massacre my every thought. As a result of that it led me to conceive suicidal thoughts. I wanted to end my life since I wasn’t valuable, and definitely not significant. Overcoming the victim attitude was tough, but I recognized with God’s aid I didn’t yearn to live my life with that mindset. As I matured I faced obstacle after obstacle only to find myself in the same position of defeat. But you know what? Every time I attain courage, and burst out of my misery. I had the victory over my circumstances, and I knew God was on my side. We have to consistently proclaim that we are more than conquerors, and we have the victory. Steve Maraboli also writes, “You are not a victim. No matter what you have been through, youre still here. You may have been challenged, hurt, betrayed, beaten, and discouraged, but nothing has defeated you. You are still here! You have been delayed but not denied. You are not a victim, you are a victor. You have a history of victory.” Declare that over your life every day! Everything that we had to encounter doesn’t have to characterize us. We can go out and be all that God called us to be. Nothing, no matter how tedious it may be can isolate us from the love of Christ. (Romans 8: 38-39) We can break free, and know what the devil meant for evil, God meant for good. What will you choose today? Victim or Victor? God, we know that you are for us. That you will never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to grab a hold of what you have for us. Continue to remind us that we are more than conquerors and that we have the victor over our circumstances. We thank you for our victory - In your name WE pray- Amen.
