Victor Abibio Jr posted: WHEN TOMORROW COMES Lets say the South-South stays in the Presidency until 2019... After that what next?... Whats the path thereafter?... What plans have we made to tackle all those issues that have bothered us all these years?... Federalism, Resource Control, Revenue Allocation, Environmental Pollution, Life after Oil, Expansion of the Economy Beyond Oil, Development of Key Infrastructure, etc... Are we really thinking beyond today, or we are just content to occupy the Presidency?... After that, what next? A people that must make progress negotiate their development... They engage in deliberate and strategic calculations to cast their future in stone... They do not depend on the magnanimity of others or the uncertainty of chance.. They look ahead to imagine what lies in the distance round the bend in the road and devise plans to surmount it... Are we peering into the future, or we are leaving it all up to fortune or to GOD?... And when our oil dries up (ah, I can hear someone exclaim, impossible... Oh really?), what are we gonna do?... Do you know Dubai is part of the UAE?... Do you see what they are doing with their oil money?... Have you thought why they are investing aggressively in non-oil related infrastructure?... They know what we know but do not want to think about. The rest of the country are watching what we are doing with the chance we have got.. They have (and through the instrumentality of fate) given us the highest office in the land for which we have been moaning since Balewas time... They wont tell us what to do with it... They cannot marry a wife for us and also consummate the marriage for us. But are we planning for life after the Presidency, or we are just satisfied to punch the air in ululation and say, it is our turn; our son is there? May our fate never be that of the old man whose son in London sent him pound sterlings but spent all his old age sleeping on them and dying in hunger, and disease thinking they were mere pieces of paper and all the while raining curses on his son for abandoning him to want and penury.
