Victory! 52 pounds. That is how much weight my doctor and I - TopicsExpress

Victory! 52 pounds. That is how much weight my doctor and I set as my target on August 17th when I started my get back in shape & eat better campaign and today I hit the target. I was 222 on August 17 and today I am 170 – my doctor approved healthy BMI, Body Fat %, etc… weight. That much weight loss in 2 ½ months of course is not the norm, and might otherwise be a sign of an unhealthy regimen, but I am VERY lucky that my runner’s metabolism was just waiting to be restarted after almost 15 years of not exercising and eating both too much, but more importantly too much of the wrong stuff. No crazy diet. In fact no “diet” (meaning being hungry). All doctor / trainer approved food changes, dropping Diet Coke habit, and going back to long-distance running and doing some light weight training. The food changes are very sustainable. The running I love (again). Though if my knees ever go I’m screwed because I still can’t stand working out by swimming for biking! Inspiration: After years of ignoring the gentle nudges of my wonderful wife and advice of my doctor it took a shock moment to get me off my butt. It came this past spring when I took the kids to a Fun Run – and I could not keep up. WHOA. “I’m 45, ran competitively for years and I can’t even go on a run with my kids”. That is what it took and I am grateful. More energy, feeling better, and most importantly not going to let my kids beat me at a run again:)
