Victory! Yesterday Philadelphia voters overwhelmingly voted to raise the minimum wage to $10.88 for thousands of airport workers and other subcontracted workers. A broad coalition of groups including POWER (Philadelphians Organized to Witness Empower and Rebuild), Fight for Philly and Pennsylvania Working Families knocked on thousands of doors to support the ballot measure. A special thanks goes to Philadelphia City Council (especially ballot measure #1 champion W. Wilson Goode, Jr.!) for putting the measure on the ballot. And thanks goes to Mayor Michael Nutter for signing an executive order to raise the wage for thousands of subcontracted workers. The people of Philadelphia have spoken and they said “NO” to poverty at PHL.
