Views around southern Cameron County and southern Potter Co., PA. The fall foliage is at its height and the overcast heightened the range of colors. The mountains do seem endless as you can see from these shots. The pictures of the elk didnt come out well but seeing them was most important. The little church is Sinnamahoning United Methodist Church, my first parish many years ago. I also had to take a picture of what we commonly call the Wholly Bear caterpillar. The less orange the worse the winter. The open forest and various beaver meadows and abandoned farms provide great browse for the elk. Tomorrow, its off to a flood control dam and the Quehannah Wilderness to look for more elk, bear and bobcat. I AM amazed at how much steeper the Appalachian Mountains have gotten since I first started coming here. In the 1950s this was virtually flat as I climbed these fields and now look at them..... just like the Rockies. Geology, certainly not age has made them so steep in just a few decades. Lol. :-)
