Villa edge derby honours by odd goal in 3. New Holland Villa came away from Silver Street with all 3 points, but they were made to work all the way by a Barnetby side missing a few players but not lacking in spirit. Following an impeccably observed minutes silence, the Barnetby side, sporting black arm bands in respect of the passing of Adrian Gibbons, played with the wind at their backs and held their higher placed opponents in the early stages. With the makeshift forward line of Jackson and Fielden, Barnetby harried the New Holland side as best they could. Fielden was lost to a pulled hamstring, but Jackson continued manfully up front, joined by Amner. Greaves, Scott, Andy Bradley and Thirlwell battled in midfield and at the back Merrick marshalled the back 4 alongside Forrest, Burgin and Chris Bradley. Reed was as assured as ever between the posts. On the stroke of half time United won a corner. Jackson sent in a sweet centre which was met by Merrick to give Barnetby the lead and a division 1 lifeline. Hope was to be short lived though as by 6 minutes into the second half New Holland had taken a 2-1 lead and with United playing into the wind now the hope of a comeback was a long shot. The result leaves United still 3 points adrift at the bottom with only 3 games.
