Village in fear after man tries to chop off woman’s head By LAUREL V WILLIAMS Saturday, September 28 2013 A man is suspected to have chopped up a woman and burnt down the house of another woman, both who live alone in Santa Flora, causing residents to live in fear. In the first incident Gloria Taylor, 62, was at her home located along the SS Erin Road, Santa Flora, last Sunday at about 5.30 pm when the man ambushed her in her yard as she was picking up clothes from a line. A resident explained that the man, who was dressed in black clothing, remarked to Taylor that he had tried three times to break into her home but had been unsuccessful. The woman told Newsday he added that he knew when she had to pick up the clothes so he waited to attack her in some nearby bushes. The resident explained that he dealt Taylor several chops about the body and stole some cash from her home. The woman, who requested anonymity, said the attacker then walked away into nearby bushes. Taylor, up to late yesterday remained in a serious condition and warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope nursing multiple injuries. “He almost severed her right hand. I am not sure if doctors managed to save it but she is doing better. He was released from jail last year. That is the type of crime he does. He also likes to tie up people and rob them,” said the residents. She shook her head in the negative as she recalled seeing Taylor covered in blood moments after the attack saying that the suspect apparently attempted to chop off her head. A few minutes drive away at Alexander Village relatives admitted that they had been living in fear since he was released from prison in August last year. The burning down of the home of Ann Mitchell, 65, they believed, was an act done by the man. Mitchell, a mother of eight, recalled on Wednesday she went to stay at the home of one of her children at Cayenne Trace, Santa Flora, fearful of being attacked in her wooden home. The homeless mother explained that at about 7 pm she received news that her home was on fire. “I do know what he could do. I have no quarrel with anyone in the area. He maybe assumed that I had called police earlier in the day but I did not call police. It was someone who told me not to stay home alone in case there is a shootout with him and police. I did not want to get shot by mistake if that was to happen,” Mitchell said. Cpl Sobie of the Santa Flora Police Station are continuing investigations.
