Virgil Lee White Virgil Lee White, age 79 of Plano, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 peacefully at Centennial Hospital in Frisco. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. July 3 at ARIA Memorial Chapel at 19310 Preston Road in Dallas. Virgil Lee White was born January 4, 1935 in Wellington to William V. “Jack” White and Lola Bratten White. He had many athletic achievements in football, basketball and track that were well known in the community. He also later won many trophies in bowling and golf, two sports that he loved dearly and had many good times playing. He grew up singing gospel music with his family and was known for his outstanding bass voice. The family still enjoys listening to recordings of this music. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Korea just after the peace treaty was signed. He was sent to Japan to compete in track and field events where he won many awards. Virgil had a very successful career in the telecommunications industry starting with Mountain Bell in Albuquerque, N.M. He owned a grocery store and television repair store in Union, Texas. He worked in Alaska and for the space center in Pasadena, Texas. He developed telephone training for Texas A&M University. Virgil spent many years in Galion, Ohio with North Electric Company and then moved back to Texas working for NEC America. Later Virgil went to work in real estate, ending with a position as office manager for Herman Boswell Property Management. He retired after 13 years with Herman Boswell. Virgil loved his family dearly and worked hard to provide for them. He was loved and respected by all. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeralene “Jerry” White DeBord. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Beth Smith White; his son, Stephen V. White; his daughter, Tanya White Davis and husband James A.
