Virunga Probably the best documentary youll ever see. Starts as a nature documentary on Mountain Gorillas and the park, shifts to an espionage/expose as the park rangers and journalists work to capture on tape mercenaries and employees of a corrupt oil company (SOCO) hoping to undermine the park, and all comes together as a war documentary as armed rebels supported by SOCO overrun the park area. When you watch the park rangers load people on trucks for evacuation and then stay behind to face an uncertain and violent future because theyre willing to die for the animals they protect you understand what Courage of Conviction means. Interesting coda to the whole thing as well, with the park director shot several times earlier this year after delivering info on SOCOs activities. Im a strong conservationist so Im a bit biased, but even if youre not into wildlife I can almost promise youll enjoy it. RAW.
