Visit to Kot Radha Kishan; distributes food ration and relief items to victimised children and family members of Sajjad and Shama The Chairman Interfaith League Against Poverty (I-LAP) made a follow-up visit to Kot Radha Kishan on Friday, November 21, 2014. He was accompanied by Justice (R) Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, former Judge Federal Shariat Court and Executive Director I-LAP, Nazia Ansari. The Chairman distributed Food Ration, Winter Bedding, Folding Beds, Kitchen Sets, Hygiene Kits, Gas Stoves and Winter Clothing to the minor children and families of the 4 brothers of Sajjad and Shama, the unfortunate Christian couple and their unborn child that was burnt alive in a brick kiln by an extremist mob on November 4, 2014. The 4 affected families and 1 child of the deceased couple are presently residing with a relative and his family who also belong to a low income group. These families left behind their meagerpersonal belongings when they had to escape from the brick kiln colony where they lived, in order to avoid persecution by the angry mob that set ablaze their family members. They have also lost their means of livelihood as the brick kiln, where they worked, has now been sealed by the police. Chairman PIL, Sajid Ishaq, said that PIL had demanded the formation of a Judicial Commission as well as the formation of a Joint Inquiry Committee which should include Justice (R) Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, former Judge of the Federal Shariat Court and one Christian religious cleric so that the findings may be made transparent but nothing has yet happened to this effect. The Chairman, Sajid Ishaq reiterated that as he has mentioned before, this was a Test Case for the Government as the Government itself is the complainant in this case. The FIR against the perpetrators was registered by the Government itself that clearly states that it was a false and baseless accusation. The fair and just trial and judgment would be a clear indication to the Religious Minorities of the seriousness on part of the Government to provide equal rights, justice and protection as professed by them on many occasions. Sajid Ishaq said that while visiting the family members of the deceased Christian couple he was told that no significant progress had been made in the case so far and they are being kept unaware of the proceedings. It was also informed by the family that the Muslim residents of the 5 villages whose male members took part in burning alive the coupe are offering money to the victimised families to drop the case and reconcile. The Chairman said that strict action should be taken against these elements so that proper investigation of the incident may be carried out and exemplary punishment may be awarded to the culprits of this heinous crime at the earliest. The Chairman also shared that during this visit the PIL team would be meeting with the concerned departments including the Police and the lawyers who are investigating this case. He said that he will ensure that the findings of the investigation are made public in order to maintain transparency of the case.
