Visiting four Tanzanian universities in five days with more than 1.200 Students attending, the VEAF-Road Show on Regional Integration in the East African Community has been a great success. The “Vision East Africa Forum”, a FES-supported lobby group for a people-centered East African Community, had embarked on this road show last week. The travelling team included EALA-Member for Tanzania, Honorable Nderakindo Kessy and Prof. Ndebesa from Makerere University, Chairman of VEAF-Uganda, plus Dr. Azaveli Lwaitama, the Regional Chair of VEAF. After short presentations by the panelists the 300-plus students at Muslim and Jordan University (Morogoro), at University of Iringa and Ruaha Catholic University had plenty of comments or questions towards regional integration. The meetings showed that the EAC-Secretariat in Arusha has a lot of work to do to popularize its vision for a people-centered community (§ 7 of the EAC-Treaty) among the youths of the member states.
