Vladimir Sobotka rant: After thinking about this all day I am 100% happy Sobotka is gone. I am, as many people are, a big fan of Vladimir Sobotka. Dude is tough as nails, is a fantastic bottom 6 grinder that does all of the little things right, and is the epitome of a guy who shouldnt be judged solely on numbers but rather on the intangibles he brings to the game. This is about where my adoration stops. Becoming a professional athlete means that at one point you had a deep love and respect for the sport you play and had an even deeper love and respect for competitive spirit. I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH AN ATHLETE TAKING THE MONEY AND LEAVING. Sports are a business and money is a tough thing to pass up, but I have absolutely no respect when money becomes more important than the love for competition. The reason that so many players from all over the place come to the NHL is because it is absolutely and unequivocally the best of the best in the entire world. Taking a top 6 role for a KHL team and being successful doesnt carry nearly the same weight or respect that being a bottom 6 and successful does in the NHL. The Blues need an entire team of players that not only collectively want to win more than the other team, BUT THAT HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO WIN THE HARDEST TROPHY IN SPORTS AGAINST THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. Im glad the dude got paid, but Im also happy that the Blues didnt bring back a player whos competitive spirit takes a backseat to his bank account. Also, before anyone comments, ask yourself: Would you respect Molina if he were to take more money to go play in AAA?
