Volunteer brag story! Recently, a newly diagnosed cancer patient - TopicsExpress

Volunteer brag story! Recently, a newly diagnosed cancer patient went into a local department store to ask about a sale on scarves she had heard about from her oncology nurse. She wanted to use them on her head, since shed started losing her hair, but the staff didnt know how to help her style them properly. Luckily, one of the managers is a Relay For Life volunteer and knew about the Look Good Feel Better Program at Texas Oncology! The volunteer immediately called her staff partner to ask how she could get the woman signed up for the program, and if there was someone available to teach her to tie the scarves on her head. Through this experience we were able to successfully refer the woman to the program, and ultimately provide her with support and encouragement, in spite of her battle with breast cancer. Volunteers are the life blood of the American Cancer Society, and Relay For Life is a volunteer lead program. Therefore volunteers are our ambassadors! We are all responsible spreading the word within the community about the work The Society is doing on the research front, program and services available, and supporting local cancer patients. Great job Ellie Domes, thanks for being such an outstanding Relayer.
