Volvo Cars US with Vinay Achary Each month our President & CEO selects a #Volvo Saved My Life story to share during a company-wide meeting with the employees at Volvo. We thought you would like these too so well be sharing the same story he shares with all of us, once a month. This month’s story comes from Kelley M. and her Volvo XC60: Hi, my name is Kelley and my husband is Charles M. who is the owner of Volvo of Athens in Athens, Georgia. Im writing because my Volvo XC60 saved my life on 10/25/2012. There is no question, without a doubt, it saved my life. Now I must say, I have always loved a Volvo, especially an XC60. Love how it drives and how it looks. I fell in love with it when they first came out. However the safety aspect is definitely something I had taken for granted until that day. I was traveling west on Interstate 20 in Georgia and came upon a construction zone where traffic was reduced to one lane and had stopped completely. After I stopped, I instinctively checked my rear view mirror, just to make sure the person behind me was going to stop as well. Unfortunately, what I saw was a van coming straight for me. Witnesses stated he was traveling at a high rate of speed. He actually had his cruise control set at 70+ and said he was distracted. Needless to say, he never saw traffic had stopped and didnt even apply his brakes before he hit me at full speed. The impact knocked me sideways into the car in front of me, across the grassy median, and into the east bound lanes on the opposite side of the interstate. Fortunately no one hit me over there and my car came to a stop. I did suffer a gash in the back of my head and a concussion from an object in the car, along with a very sore leg and hand (from gripping the steering wheel and having my foot on the brake), but thats the extent of my injuries! The Georgia State Trooper on the scene said Mam you sure are lucky you were in that Volvo. I couldnt agree more!! Actually I would say I was blessed to be driving a Volvo that day. We have many pictures of my totaled car and its amazing to see what safety features were activated. I personally couldnt say exactly what they were, although our technicians at the dealership certainly can. I just know that it truly saved my life that day and I never want to drive anything else! So now I just want to shout it from the rooftops that my Volvo saved my life! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! A million times thank you Volvo!! Sincerely, Kelley M. Has a Volvo saved your life?
