Vordan Karmir is Armenian dyeing insect, which was spread in Ararat Valley. Red paint of the same name that was obtained from the insect was invaluable because of its unfading color. First century Roman naturalist Plinios Elder witnessed that Vordan Karmir was in the first place of the products exported from Armenia. The facts about this can be found also in works of Armenian historians. Vordan Karmir was once recognized as the most beautiful paint in the world and was named "Royal Red", as it was used to dye royal and princely dresses. Resolvent and febrifuge medicines were made of this paint. The main producers of Vordan Karmir were Dvin and Artashat cities. Starting from the13th century there was a decrease of production of Vordan Karmir due to foreign invasions, and then fallowed by a full stoppage. With time the way to obtain the paint was forgotten, and till nowadays nobody can find it. P.S. In some places of our country - Hoktemberyan, Echmiadzin, Masis- the insect Vordan Karmir still can be found.
