Vote and Support Scissors, To cut all negative elements of politics; Despite pressures and promises from various corners for my withdrawal, I stood by my conscience and principles, and yes I am now an independent candidate from Nubra Assembly Constituency with Scissors as my symbol. Many political leaders advised me to withdraw from the fray as they thought I was spoiling my political career with this decision. Elected or not, if I am able to bring some awareness among the public about their political rights and duties and encourage them to say ‘NO’ to all kinds of undemocratic means, then a big purpose is served. I have seen in the past that political parties have their own compulsions and raising a voice by a few in a big group of workers often become a minority. Now I’m independent and independently following my conscience, without any compulsions. Today I am happy to learn that all political parties, village societies and other groups seem to support this cause to make elections free and fair. In the last few days I met several grassroots public representatives in Nubra and also many villagers. To make this election an example I appealed to the public not to succumb to any pressure or any kind of malpractices during elections, and vote for the candidate or the party of their choice. I also didn’t ask them to vote for me only but suggested that if they feel I could be of some help to Nubra region, only then press the scissors button. Many of the villagers were highly appreciative of this kind of campaign and they extended their cooperation for making elections free and fair. I also suggested the public to make video and audio records of the speeches and promises of all political parties and candidates including that of my own. Also suggested to make video records if distribution cash, use of liquor and other unfair means take place to lure innocent public and voters, and such footage can be uploaded on Social Media also. If elected I will strive for: 1. Strengthening existing educational institutions for quality education; 2. Khardongla Tunnel (I have worked on this project for the last 7 years and it has been agreed at the government of India level and needs to be expedited); 3. Making Warila all weather road to provide an alternative road to Nubra; 4. Connecting all schools, government offices, hospitals and villages of Nubra with high speed broadband and wireless internet facilities; 5. Connecting all villages of Nubra with an internal power grid and also install transmission line between Leh and Nubra (at the same time expediting ongoing micro hydel projects in the region); 6. Improvement of telecommunication services and internet facilities; 7. Exploring potential of Seaburkthorn for sustainable development and creating employment opportunities; 8. Skill development of unemployed youth in different fields; 9. Public transport services to remote villages; 10. Construction of irrigation canals to convert barren lands into cultivable; 11. Making efforts to promote cash crop; 12. Flood Protection projects for flood prone areas of Nubra; 13. Opening of Yarma Gonbo Area for Tourism; 14. Ambulance services to all remote villages; 15. Promotion of local handicraft skills; 16. Making newly created Degree College fully functional; 17. Making newly created Higher Secondary Schools and high schools functional; 18. Expediting construction of Shatse-Dakney, Rongdo, and Tsati bridges; 19. Promotion of Polo (Stapolo), Ice Hockey and Traditional Archery ; 20. Importing of fresh vegetables to Nubra through Indian air force in winter months (as a short term measure) and Promotion of advanced greenhouses for producing vegetable in Nubra itself in winter ( as a long term measure); 21. Enhancement of quota for airlifting of civilian passengers in the Indian Air force planes; 22. Construction of a passengers’ shed at Chandigarh; 23. Carry forward the legacy of Civil-Army cooperation; 24. Last but not the least: respecting the ecosystem and biodiversity of the region and conserve them.. These are some of the issues I am intending to work on if elected (will work on these even if not elected also) but if elected I will also frame a committee, may be named as Nubra Development Committee, of elderly people of Nubra including renowned individuals retired from government services, officers hailing from the region, and also from the younger generations who have tremendous exposures outside Ladakh and want to contribute to Nubra’s development and prosperity, to come up with a road-map for a holistic development of Nubra region in line with the goals enshrined in Ladakh Vision Document. Can’t we also discuss the restoration of the old Central Asian trade route, the silk route for tourism? Such issues can be discussed by this committee. I already have few volunteers with me for my campaign and anyone would like to help us, make us a donation or volunteer are most welcome as our team is in need of your help. Let me assure you that I shall never misuse your supports. I am thinking of doing a very low-cost campaign but with lots of innovative methods. I know it is not an easy task as I am facing four major political parties... but I am sure my small effort will grow into a big movement and make a difference in the society... You will be helping me by sharing this post... Suggest your friends to press Scissors button if you think that i will be able to make some difference... Julay and high regards to all, Tsewang Rigzin 9419179035
