Voters’ registration starts July 22 By: Leonard T. Pineda I ILOILO CITY, July 22 (PIA) --- The nationwide registration of voters for the October Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections starts today, July 22, 2013 until July 31, 2013. Jonathan Sayno, Iloilo City Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Assistant Election Officer, said that the City COMELEC office will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM for the ten-day voters’ registration, even on weekend (July 27-28) to accommodate those who would like to register. Sayno said that registrants for barangay polls must be Filipino citizens, at least 18 years old or older on election day, a resident of the Philippines for at least one year before election day, and a resident of the place where he intends to vote for at least six months immediately prior to election day. For the SK elections, the registrant should also be a Filipino citizen, at least 15 years old but less than 18 years old on election day, and a resident of the barangay for at least six months before election day. Sayno said that for the registration of first-time voters, they need to present their birth certificate or any valid identification card or document that indicates their address and their date of birth. The COMELEC said that voters who were de-activated from the voter’s list for failure to vote in two consecutive elections may also register this week. (JCM/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
