#WA #Corp Category: Fire Alert Summary: A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people near Quartz Quarry Road in Boodarie, south of South Hedland, in the Town of Port Hedland. Content: ALERT LEVEL: A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people near Quartz Quarry Road in Boodarie, south of South Hedland, in the Town of Port Hedland. The fire is burning in scrubland near Quartz Quarry Road and is burning towards the Fortescue Metals Group railway line. DFES is working closely with neighbouring landowners who have been notified of the fire. There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is moving fast in a western direction. It is out of control and unpredictable. This means the Great Northern Highway to the west may be threatened by fire and you need to keep up to date. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: One volunteer Fire and Rescue Service crew from South Hedland and one Volunteer Fire Service crew from Port Hedland are on the scene. Aerial intelligence is being conducted. The Town of Port Hedland are also in attendance. CAUSE: The cause of the fire is unknown. AGENCY RESPONSIBLE: DFES is now managing the fire.
