WALKING CORPSE, WRITTEN BY Adebola Talabi Are you going to scrap TASCE? The question is timely. It looks like the crisis defies solution. To sustain that institution the government needs to pump money there so that it can survive. Anything short of that is systematic killing of the school, the standard of education in the state and the staff of the school. The school is killed installmentallybecause no worker will be happy working for three months and taking one months pay. Even if the government sacks all the present set of workers, the new ones employed will wait for a while before they begin agitation. I look at it this way because the government insists on internal sourcing. Presently the school can not source for enough money internally to meet its present crisis. If the government is really interested in the survival of that school, it should be placed on the priority list. The govt should look for money to bail the school from extinction. If the govt could come to the assistance of the school, the government and the management could then look for a way around the financial problem. One of the ways is using what you have to get what you need. The school should look for a way of starting the degree program. Fortunately most of the lecturers that made Tai Solarin University of education are in TASCE, and some even lecture in Tasued on part time basis. The quality of lecturers and the quality of the would be products is not in doubt. This suggestion will boost enrolment and the crisis will stop permanently. If this is not done, it will affect the quality of education in the school. If the NCE program is meant to be the bedrock of primary education, you can imagine the foundation of education in the state. This is why the common man should see the crisis as affecting them closely. Unless you can afford private schools. As it is, the staff of the school are walking corpse. They just exist. They are not living. As a colleague once remarked, they are academic nuisance . Those who study psychology will know the attendant effect of this on the output of workers. These are hitherto brilliant workers that transformed college to a university. Tasued convocated some of its graduates this week. The school is buoyant because of its lGR. Tasce since 2008 only matriculates but never convocates because there is no money. Tasce could not have a befitting campus because there is no money. Lecturers could not have offices because there is no money. Tasce can not pay its staff because there is no money. Tasce can not generate enough money internally because there is no money. And the government is aware. If govt does not want the school to die, provide money for the school. Austerity does not imply that if you have many children, kill some so that you can survive. It means re order your priorities.
