WANT TO VISIT HILL TRIBES when your touring with us? Baan Tong Luang, is a government sponsored Hill Tribe cultural preservation village that can be included in your tour, allowing you to visit with five different tribal cultures. Enjoy interacting with them as they go about their daily life, growing rice, feeding their cattle, dying their cloth, weaving, cooking... Over the years we have taken many, many of our guests to this venue and almost each and every one ask to stay and visit for far longer than they had originally planned! This is just a little glimpse into what you will see and learn: The Hmong know the technique of batik. This method is used to create colors and design on white hemp skirts. The dye used is indigo, so Hmong women trained in batik dye often have hands stained blue. These days, only a few Hmong women have the skills for batik dye. It is a time consuming task, but the demand for authentic batik-dyed hemp skirts means, that the art form will at least continue to thrive for a little longer. When you email us about planning a tour let us know you would like to join us and watch this process. Or, if youre in the mood for a trip to Mae Hong Son during the Christmas holidays, ask us about our Toys 4 Thailand Small World Festival Tour. More than a dozen different ethnic hill tribes will be attending this unique National Geographic type cultural, outreach event .
