WARNING: This post has religious content. :) Someone told me last night, Its good that you have kept your sense of humor like she was surprised and quoting some rehearsed truth, which she didnt actually believe. I have also heard a number of folks say that ALS takes everything but our soul. These things got me to thinking, ALS does not take anything from me, except my body (which I would eventually surrender anyway). My sense of humor, faith, love, hope, etc., all remain completely unaffected; because for me, these things are a part of the real me. Some temporary problem...even one as big and scary as ALS, cannot touch these parts of me because these parts of me are not of nerve and flesh made. We should know as well as anyone, how frail and temporary this flesh, and all of its strengths and weaknesses, really is. So, if one had these internal parts intact before (genuinely), why would nerve and muscle death change any of them? Yes, things hurt. Yes, the future is scary. And yes, our decline and death will be difficult for us and those we love. But they will die, one day, too; perhaps, we can show them how to face their own struggles. Perhaps, God is doing something internal, and even eternal, in us and our loved ones through these external sufferings. I am a Happy and Blessed man. Thanks for reading.
