WATCH THIS: One day after a #Ferguson, MO police officer shot dead unarmed teenager #MichaelBrown, Police Officer #JamesKrebs and his partner Officer Smith of the Kansas City, MO Police Department engage with those whom theyre sworn to Protect & Serve! Quoth Officer Krebs: What I was thinking . . . I cant believe Im doing this. . . . When I joined the police force I told them I wanted to build rapport with the community because I feel like if we build rapport with them then they are more likely to call us when they need us. ____________________ Juxtapose Officers Krebs and with the preemptively hostile fashion in which so much of law enforcement interacts with youth of color, and the contrast is THUNDEROUS! As I watched and listened to Officer Krebs, I thought-felt, This man deserves a promotion! But then I recalled some lines from Captain James T. Kirk to Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the film, STAR TREK: Generations: Dont let them promote you. Dont let them transfer you. Dont let them do *anything* that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while youre there... you can make a difference. I hope that Officer Krebs superiors reward him for his intelligent and empathetic community ergonomics. But, dayum -- I hope hell be on his beat (in his squad car, if not his starship), because while hes there, hes making a difference. Live long and prosper, Officer Krebs!
