WATER FLOWING FROM BENEATH THE TEMPLE/JESUS FOUNT OF MERCY - - TopicsExpress

WATER FLOWING FROM BENEATH THE TEMPLE/JESUS FOUNT OF MERCY - Beautiful Mass tonight at St. Helenas in Hobbs with two of the readings (including John 2: 13-22) focusing on Jesus as the temple and the temple being his body. And of course, as The Church, we are all one body in Christ. Father Bauzas wonderful homily was about this. However, the first two readings, while also focusing on the temple, talked more specifically about the water flowing beneath or around the temple, and that is what really struck me. Ive been having a lot of dreams again lately about water and so what struck me the most is identifying the foreshadowing of Christs fount of mercy in the Old Testament. It is very intriguing and captivating. Check this out; reading 1, from Ezekiel 47 reads, The angel brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing out from beneath the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the façade of the temple was toward the east; the water flowed down from the southern side of the temple, south of the altar. He led me outside by the north gate, and around to the outer gate facing the east, where I saw water trickling from the southern side. He said to me, “This water flows into the eastern district down upon the Arabah, and empties into the sea, the salt waters, which it makes fresh. Wherever the river flows, every sort of living creature that can multiply shall live, and there shall be abundant fish, for wherever this water comes the sea shall be made fresh (Ezekiel 47: 1-12). Now what does this Old Testament Scripture remind you of in the New Testament? Immediately, I thought of when Jesus was dying on the cross and a soldier inflicts a final blow on him, thrusting a lance into his side to make sure he is dead and out flows a stream of both water and blood (John 19: 34-35). Notice in the passage from Ezekiel above, It describes water flowing out from beneath the threshold of the temple, but then it also specifically states how the water then flowed down from the southern side of the temple. I just kept thinking of the blood and water - the fount of mercy - which gushed forth from the side of Jesus. Ezekiel then talks about how this water makes other water fresh and how wherever it flows, every living creature that can multiply shall live and be made fresh. There are may allusions or foreshadowing of Christs fount of mercy, of The Eucharist and of Our Blessed Mother Mary in the Old Testament that is fulfilled in the New Testament. They are not two separate stories but one complete plan. The other reading was from Psalm 46 and talks about how the waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the most high. Good night.
