WE ARE MANY. I don’t often use the word masterpiece, but it is the one that came into my head at the end of Amir Amiranis powerful documentary. It is the way in which he approached his subject that is so impressive. The immaculate restraint abjuring sensationalising so that the emotional impact hit so much harder. The meticulously structured sequences of film footage and interviews. The images of a whole sea of humanity united in a common cause across the world, and those other images of a country having its heart ripped out. But above all, in showing the impact of that universal protest on democracy in Egypt, the effect it had on the decisions not to move into Syria, Amir’s film shows how a collective will to protest against those who have power over us can make some difference. I hope the film will be shown all around the world.
